Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a common disease of the lungs, resulting in difficulty breathing. The two main forms of COPD are chronic bronchitis and emphysema.
Most people with COPD usually have both bronchitis and emphysema together. Extreme heat or cold can make breathing difficult for a person with COPD. In the summer, when temperatures can reach uncomfortable levels, it is best to use air-conditioning to maintain a dryer, cooler climate. Caution should be used, however, to not make the indoor temperature too cold, as this will tend to exaggerate the condition.
Also, poor indoor air quality makes breathing a chore with COPD. A Frigidare air-conditioning window unit would help to improve the indoor air quality by filtering the air of dust and other impurities. Occasionally, it would be a good idea to also run the window air conditioning unit on the exhaust setting. This would work to rid that area of the home of any possible fumes that may build over time.
Most importantly, always remember to wash out the filter that comes with the air conditioning unit on a monthly basis. It’s easy to do and will help immensely with the symptoms of COPD.
