Dad forgot to change the air filter

My father is getting elderly and forgetful.

I’ve taken him to the doctor but they don’t think it is Alzheimer’s.

They think he is just getting old. He still can take care of himself though. He just forgets things he was told and he forgets them very frequently. Then, on Tuesday, he called me and told me that his heater wasn’t working right. He said it was making a lot of noise and not putting out much heat. I called up a heater repair company and scheduled a repair for Saturday. Then I went over to my father’s house just before the heater company arrived. They looked around a bit and then removed the air filter. “Here is your problem,” the technician said. I could see that the air filter was just full of dust and cat hair. It looked like it hadn’t been changed in months, maybe even years. My father said he forgot to change it. I took the heating technician aside and asked about a maintenance plan. I was hoping that maybe the heating company could come and change the air filter every 2 months or so. It turns out that that would be rather expensive. Instead, the technician suggested that he install a smart air filter and link it with my phone. Then, the air filter will let me know when it is time to change it. Additionally, I could sign up for a maintenance plan where the heating company comes out every 6 months. That makes a lot of sense. I don’t want my father’s heater to stop working because he forgets to take care of it.
