Missed our HVAC service

I’m a stay at home dad, and I relish the two days a month that my dad takes my kids for the afternoon.

  • These afternoons give me an opportunity to destress, take care of myself, and relax my brain from the trials of being a dad.

But, last week, just as I was getting into the tub with a bubbly red bath bomb, I heard the doorbell chime. I thought, “There’s no way that’s not a salesman,” and leaned further into the bubbly froth. Then, after another knock on the door (I ignored that one too), I got a call on my cell! Deciding that it wasn’t a coincidence, I picked up the phone. “Hello, Mr. Taylor? This is Jamie from the Heating and A/C contractor. I’m outside the house, here to take a look at your soffits.” I suddenly jumped out of the tub, threw on my robe, and went to the door. The Heating and A/C worker said hello to me, and after I gratuitously apologized to him, he said that my husband had scheduled the appointment for the Heating and A/C contractor to send someone out for our regular soffit and vent cleaning. I knew how crucial these cleaning were for keeping up the output and effectiveness of our air conditioner and our furnace, and I felt bad for delaying the worker. I lounged on the couch in my bathrobe while the worker took care of our soffits and vents. He even replaced our air filter and performed a quick evaluation of our ducts in the attic while he was there, to offer us peace of mind until the next time they came out. I was very grateful that they arrived, and I was so humiliated that I hadn’t coordinated more effectively with my husband. While my kids’ absence is useful for my self-care routine, it also gives me precious time to make sure our home stays in good shape.
