I have always loved my smart thermostat.
Ever since it was installed I have wondered how I lived without it before.
It is nice to be able to adjust your temperature even when you are not home. I like not having to get up out of bed before turning the air conditioner to a warmer setting. Being able to adjust the thermostat from my phone is very nice. Yesterday something happened that has made me a little annoyed at my smart thermostat. I was driving home from work after being freezing cold all day. A cold front went through this area last night. I thought it would warm up as the day progressed but it did not. So I decided to turn on my home heater before leaving the office. It was the first time turning on the heater in over 8 months. Well, when I got home the fire department was parked on my lawn. Apparently my heater smoked when it turned on and my smoke detectors went off. Since my smoke detectors are part of my smart house, the fire department was called. Thankfully there was no real emergency. The smoke smell burned off from my heater quickly. But I learned my lesson. I should get my heater serviced before turning it on each year. Or, at least not turn the heater on when I’m not home. But, like I said, this is the first incident where I have regretted using my smart thermostat. Smart homes are the future and I plan to be a part of that future. Of course there are going to be some hiccups along the way.
