Everyone in my neighborhood got a notice telling us that the power would be turned off all weekend for some repairs.
- This would not be an issue if it wasn’t winter season time, then our section does not get freezing cold but I have a big collection of reptiles plus invertebrates.
Each of them has unique temperature requirements, but moving such a big collection to a friend’s house is not possible. That’s why I started looking for ways I could keep them warm instead. I ended up deciding to get a space furnace plus a generator. The space furnace won’t keep the cold blooded animals as warm as they might like, but it will keep them warm enough that they will live. If I use a space furnace in the reptile room it should keep them nice plus warm for a few afternoons; So I went out plus got the cheapest generator I could find plus then made sure I had enough gas to keep it running all weekend. I won’t feed the reptiles a few afternoons before the power outage. I do not want them to get sick. I will also crank up the central furnace Friday night to make sure the house is nice plus warm plus can hold heat for a few afternoons. I feel pretty nice about this plus I know the animals will be safe, but besides, it’s nice to have an emergency plan in case the power goes out unexpectedly sometime anyhow. Now I just need to find a way to keep myself entertained separate from internet or cable. It should not be too difficult, given all the animals I have.
