I’m a stay at home mom, and I so enjoy the one day a week that my dad takes my kids for the day.
It provides an opportunity to chill out, perform self-care, and take a break from the hardships of being a mom! But, last week, just as I was climbing into the bathtub with a rose-scented bath bomb, I heard the doorbell.
I thought, “That’s totally just a salesman,” and sunk down further into the frothy bubbles. After another knock, which I also ignored, my cell began to ring! Determining that it wasn’t coincidental, I picked up the phone. “Hello, Mrs. Stevens? This is Charlie from the Heating, Ventilation, and A/C company. I’m outside, and I’m here to inspect your soffits.” With a jolt, I jumped out of the bathtub, threw on my kimono, and traipsed to the front door. The Heating, Ventilation, and A/C worker looked pleased to see me, and I apologized sincerely to him. He let me know that my husband had put us on the schedule for the Heating, Ventilation, and A/C company to send someone out for our routine soffit and vent maintenance; I knew how important these cleanings were for keeping our cooling system and gas furnace running smoothly and efficiently, and I felt awful for delaying the technician. I sat on the loveseat in my bathrobe while the worker diagnosed our soffits and vents. He even swapped out our air filter and did a quick once-over of our ducts upstairs during the appointment, which gave me peace of mind that our system would be fine until our next appointment. I was very appreciative that they came, and I was so mortified that I hadn’t communicated better with my husband. While my kids’ time with my Dad is beneficial for my self-care regimen, it also gives me crucial time to keep our home up and running.
