When we first became homeowners, it was a mystery to us why our air quality became so bad in the house. We changed the air filters every single month and other than that, we didn’t get what the issue was. We vacuumed and dusted a lot. However, it seemed that the dust and debris would keep building up no matter what we did or how much we cleaned. Eventually, we called a HVAC professional to help us out. The lady asked us if we ever had our air duct cleaned, which we did not. She said that was an immense thing that affected the air quality. The HVAC professional peered into the air duct and said it seemed blocked up. That nasty stuff inside of there was making its way into our breathing air. This kind of freaked us out because we thought we might get sick. The technician said she could take care of the air duct cleaning. So we had that maintenance taken care of and then she started telling us about the air filters we were using. We got the cheap fiberglass air filters, and the technician said those barely even protected the HVAC system. They didn’t do anything to improve the air quality. This also was a problem factor for having wonderful air quality, the air filters. She said we had to use quality air filters with higher MERV ratings. The last thing the HVAC technician covered was an air cleaner. She said with a quality air cleaner, we could be assured that all that dust and debris was being filtered out of our breathing air, and that’s what we wanted. We went for that replacement and now it works along with our HVAC unit which is great.
