Our kitchen has these bay windows that were installed before we bought the house.
It’s one of the aspects of the house that we fell in love with immediately.
The windows are just amazing. I love sitting at the kitchen table in the morning and watching the birds at the bird feeder. Occasionally, I even see deer outside. It’s just so peaceful, especially since winter started. I could watch the snow falling all day long. The only problem is, these windows let in more than just outdoor beauty. They also let in cold air. Our kitchen is always freezing cold no matter how warm the rest of the house is. It’s becoming unbearable. We have contacted a furnace company and they took a look at our HVAC system. They said there’s nothing wrong with our furnace though. As I suspected, it’s cold because the glass has no insulation whatsoever. They suggested we get double paned glass to give us a little bit more protection from the outside chill. However, the furnace company did have an option for us. They said we could get the zone control to keep the kitchen a bit warmer. I guess they set up some kind of barrier system in the ductwork. The barriers closed off the heat to the rest of the house when they reach their thermostat settings. Meanwhile, the furnace heats the kitchen. The whole house can remain comfortable this way. This looks like something we might be interested in having done. We would like to stay nice and comfortable and we really do love this house. So we better take good care of it.
